Nagmamalinis? TPB exec eyed to replace Cesar Montano washes hands off corruption under Teo’s term

Despite resigning from his post, former Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Cesar Montano continues to raise eyebrows over the choice of officials who could succeed him.

One particular candidate for COO whose credentials and credibility are being questioned is Maricon Ebron, who is the Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Marketing and Promotions.

Politiko’s source said Ebron’s revelation that several TPB projects did not go through public bidding under Montano’s watch apppears to be a ploy to distance herself from the transactions.

In a report by CNN Philippines, Ebron was quoted as saying: Marami nang na-implement na medyo nangangailangan ng bidding or it has to go through the process ng board approval, na medyo nag-skip doon sa mga process na iyon. So I think na tama na dapat i-review.”

The source said Ebron should know better about the corruption happening under her nose since she has been working at the TPB for several years.

Ebron also enjoyed the trust of former Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo so much so that she was appointed as Deputy COO at the TPB.

Owing to her position and closeness to Teo, Politiko’s source said there’s no excuse for Ebron to be clueless about the corruption happening within the agency.

“She can’t wash her hands off this,” the source said.

TPB has become controversial for paying P80 million to the organizer of “Buhay Carinderia” without having the project undergo public bidding.

“Buhay Carinderia,” which aimed to feature streetside eateries, is a project of Marylindbert International, a company owned by businesswoman Linda Legaspi.

The businesswoman is said to be close to Teo.
