Nahawa na: Incoming NBI chief Gierran talks like Duterte

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is beginning to rub off on his chosen officials as far as manner of speech is concerned.

Lawyer Dante Gierran, the incoming National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief, used “Digong Lingo” on Monday, June 6 to describe his resolve in making sure that “tanim-bala” doesn’t exist in the Duterte administration.

“Kailangan talagang mawala ‘yan. Patayin natin yung nagtatanim ng bala na iyan,” Gierran said in an interview Monday (June 6) on DZMM radio.

Tanim-bala refers to the modus operandi of some unscrupulous airport personnel of “planting” bullets in the luggages of travelers so they may be victimized for extortion after.

The 71-year-old Duterte has grabbed headlines for his dirty mouth and “death threats” against low-life criminals and corrupt government officials. Now, Gierran is trying to speak his language.

However, the soon-to-be NBI boss qualified his statement seconds later, saying it’s “just meant to give emphasis”.

The Tanim-bala controversy was widely condemned by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families since they were the ones mostly affected by it.

It should be noted that Duterte won big in overseas absentee voting in the May 9 polls.
