Nahimasmasan! Phisgoc-Cayetano swallows pride, lets DOT help in SEA Games
With social media exploding daily with complaints about the disastrous hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) finally acknowledged they need the help of other government agencies.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said Tuesday (November 26) it is committed to implementing the best practices in welcoming foreign delegates to the SEA Games.
In a statement, DOT said it is present in all airport reception and departure activities for SEA Games delegates. It is also working with the Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP) to get in touch with hotels and related establishments accommodating the delegates.
A source told Politiko that DOT has been tasked by Phisgoc to give welcome leis to foreign delegates who will arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
After the welcome routine, Phisgoc and the Manila International Airport Authority’s Public Affairs Office will help the foreign delegates get past immigration and help them with transportation.
The source told Politiko said DOT has taken the initiative to offer help to Phisgoc officials if they need assistance in and out of NAIA.
Politiko earlier reported that Cayetano shunned the help of DOT and other government agencies in staging the SEA Games way back last year, preferring his cronies at Phisgoc to do the job despite the lack of experience.
