Malacañang belied on Sunday rumors that President Rodrigo Duterte did not receive a soccer jersey during the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between the ASEAN and FIFA in Bangkok yesterday.
“The official photo of the President, easily accessible in the Facebook account of the Presidential Communications (Operations Office), immediately puts a lie to this sinister false news,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
Panelo’s comment came after Filipino blogger “The Professional Heckler” tweeted a spliced video purportedly showing that Duterte was not given a jersey during the event.
Satirical page Malacañang Events and Catering Services also posted a video on Twitter of Duterte being the last ASEAN leader to receive his commemorative jersey.
“With this succeeding bogus news coming in the heels of the fabricated news story dragging Thailand’s monarchy, it becomes predictable that this vicious campaign of hate against (Duterte) will not cease until his last day in office,” the Palace official added.
Last Friday, a bogus news story allegedly published by the Bangkok Post claimed that Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn wanted Duterte to “behave” during his visit in Bangkok.
Panelo said the latest “dirty” political stunt against the Filipino leader emphasizes the “obsession” of his detractors to embarrass and humiliate him.
