Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano expressed his disappointment that Jolo cathedral bombing still happened despite the existing martial law proclamation in Mindanao.

“It is unfortunate that in spite of the Martial Law in whole of Mindanao, such terrorist acts continue to happen,” he said.

Alejano said he hopes that intelligence gathering would be intensified by the authorities following the twin explosion that rocked the center of Catholicism in Sulu.

“I call on all relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators. I also enjoin the cooperation of the public for the safety of each and everyone,” he said.

Alejano has condemned the violent bombing of the Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo which left dozens of people dead while many others were severely wounded after the blast.

“I strongly condemn the bombing at the Jolo Cathedral in Sulu this morning which killed and injured civilians and soldiers. My condolences and prayers go to the families of the victims,” he said.

The former Marine captain believed that the bombing was meant to upset the peace efforts in the Mindanano region especially that it happened few days after the plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

“This dastardly act committed in a public place before a religious gathering is clearly an effort to sow fear and terror,” he said.
