Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman Chel Diokno on Thursday (July 2) slammed the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its continued abuses and violations during this pandemic.

“PNP ang pumaslang sa apat na sundalo sa Jolo, PNP ang nangmaltrato sa tauhan ng DENR sa Palawan, PNP ang pumatay kay Cpl. Ragos, at PNP ang lumabag sa quarantine para mag-mañanita,” read his latest social media posts.

“Sino ang totoong pasaway?” the human rights lawyer pointed out.

At the moment, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating the deaths of four Army intelligence officers who were killed by policemen in Jolo, Sulu last Monday afternoon (June 29).

Jolo police claimed that the four refused to have identities verified and even tried to flee and initiate a firefight.

Prior this, former Puerto Princesa police chief Col. Marlon Balonglong has been accused of beating up last June 10 eight personnel of the Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR) investigating environment violations in a mangrove area.

Last April 10, retired Army Cpl. Winston Ragos was shot near a checkpoint in Quezon City by Police M/Sgt. Daniel Florendo over claims that the former soldier made threats with a gun.

President Rodrigo Duterte has also expressed his support to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas despite allegations of violating protocols for holding a “mananita” at his office to celebrate his birthday on May 8.
