Nanghingi lang naman ng timeout! Mon Tulfo: Duterte’s tirade vs health workers uncalled for
In a rare instance, Special Envoy to China Ramon Tulfo took exception to President Rodrigo Duterte’s allegation that health workers are planning a “revolution” after they asked that Metro Manila be reverted to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Tulfo said Friday (August 7) that Duterte “rubbed salt” on the wound of health workers, who have been exhausted due to the surge in number of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals in recent weeks.
“Nowhere in their complaint of being bone-tired did the doctors say anything that would incite the masses to revolt against the government,” he said in his Manila Times column.
“Personally, I understand where the President was coming from. He looked haggard and old apparently due to the burden on his shoulders. But his statement to the doctors was uncalled for,” Tulfo added.
Considered as one of the President’s close friends, Tulfo said whoever wrote Duterte’s remarks over the weekend “should be fired for making him look bad in the eyes of the citizenry.”
Duterte responded to the health workers’ request for timeout by placing Metro Manila, Laguna, Bulacan and Rizal under modified ECQ (MECQ) for two weeks, until August 18.
