Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Wednesday (Feb. 3) defended why it’s taking the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) too long with its investigation on the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.
“The NBI is not rushing its report because it wants all bases covered,” he explained.
“But I’m sure that the NBI will be able to submit its report before the prosecutor concludes the preliminary investigation and resolves the case,” he added.
The Makati City Prosecutor’s Office is already conducting a preliminary investigation on the complaint filed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) against 11 men who are accused of rape with homicide in connection with the death of Dacera.
“I will endorse the NBI report on Dacera to the investigating prosecutor as soon as i receive it,” said Guevarra.
Dacera was declared dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) after being found unconscious last Jan. 1 in her room at the City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati City.
Guevarra directed the NBI to also investigate the her death after the PNP drew flak for having mishandled the case.
