The Sandiganbayan first division has convicted alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles and former Cagayan De Oro Rep. Constantino Jaraula of graft and malversation over the supposed misuse of his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
In its decision, the anti-graft court’s first division found Napoles and Jaraula guilty of earning around P20.8 million in kickbacks by diverting the former lawmaker’s PDAF allocation to dubious non-government organizations.
Jaraula was also convicted of three counts of direct bribery.
The court has Napoles and Jaraula to return a total of P36 million pesos and serve a maximum prison sentence of 18 years. The two, however, can appeal their conviction.
Napoles is currently detained over plunder charges in connection with the supposed misuse of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.’s PDAF allocation.
