ACT-CIS Party-list Cong. Eric Go Yap has blasted the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) over the inclusion of convicted pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles in the list of convicted inmates whose Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) is under consideration.
Yap’s statement came after Napoles’ name was on the list of inmates eligible for early release under Republic Act No. 10592 based on the files obtained by Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chair Richard Gordon.
Yap expressed his concern, saying that the inclusion of Napoles’ name in the supposed list of GCTA beneficiaries that there is indeed massive corruption inside BuCor.
“Noong una kong nabasa ito, akala ko fake news. Lalo tayong nangangamba baka may nangyayari nga na GCTA for sale sa BuCor,” said Yap.
“Nakakabahala ang napabalitang pagsasama kay Janet Napoles sa listahan ng posibleng makalaya dahil sa GCTA,” he added.
The document showed by Gordon during Wednesday’s Senate inquiry disclosed that the case attached to Napoles was rape instead of plunder.
Justice Sec. Menardo Gueverra already ordered an investigation why the name of Napoles was included in the list of possible GCTA beneficiaries.
Napoles in November 2018 was found guilty of plunder for benefitting directly from the P124.5-million worth of kickbacks using the P224-million Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) or pork barrel funds channeled by the office Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. to her bogus non-government organizations.
Meanwhile, Yap is eyeing a House probe over the controversial GCTA mess in BuCor.
“Patuloy nating babantayan ito at hindi tayo tatalikod sa nasimulan nating pagtutol sa pag-abuso sa batas na ito na magpapalaya sa mga katulad ni Janet Napoles,” said Yap.
