Netizens are speculating about the absence of a mass action by ABS-CBN stars as the network faces the threat of having its franchise expire in two months.

The Twitter account @AltABSCBN slammed Kapamilya artists for supposedly being selfish after workers from various media organizations held a rally against the network’s possible closure Friday (January 17).

“Look how selfish our kapamilya artists are? Even media people from other companies, institutions are standing up against this tyrannical govt. Nasaan ang mga idol niyo? Nasaan ang Vice Ganda niyo? Nasaan ang dancer na si Sarah?Nasaan ang KathNiel? Magsasara na na tahimik pa rin,” @AltABSCBN said.

Twitter user @tacioDelinquent also questioned the absence of ABS-CBN news anchors and talents at the rally, which was organized by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).

“Nasaan sina Noli de Castro, Ted Failon, Anthony Taberna, Doris Bigornia, Dominic Almirol, at ang NCA? Baka may gag order sa management?” he asked.

President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly threatened to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, which will expire on March 30, 2020.

There are at least nine bills filed in the House of Representatives seeking to renew ABS-CBN’s franchise. However, they have yet to be scheduled for discussion by the Committee on Legislative Franchise.

While some netizens may be bothered by the silence of some Kapamilya stars on the franchise issue, it’s possible those who know the President or his allies are working behind the scenes to convince him to allow ABS-CBN to continue its operations.

Some believe that Ted Failon, who recently had a one on one interview with Duterte, can help ABS-CBN’s bosses resolve issues with the President.
