The pilot run of the national identification system will run from September to December this year, according to Malacanang.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Tuesday said the government aims to issue 107 million cards to Filipinos by 2022.
“There will be a pilot testing which will run from September to December 2019 to register a substantial number of Filipinos nationwide,” said Panelo.
“By the end of the President’s term in 2022, 107 million Filipinos are targeted to be registered,” he added.
In August last year, President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law the Philippine Identification System Act, which institutionalizes a single official identification for all Filipino citizens and the country’s resident foreigners.
