‘Di sanay magising nang maaga: Duterte skips 4 ASEAN Summit events to sleep

President Rodrigo Duterte skipped four meetings at the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Singapore to take “power naps,” spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
Among the activities Duterte missed today were the ASEAN-Australia Informal Breakfast Summit, the 20th ASEAN – Republic of Korea Summit, the Working Lunch hosted by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Second Regional Comprehensive Economic.
Panelo explained that the chief executive needed to catch up on lost sleep because he “worked late and had only less than three hours of sleep” the other night.
“In the four meetings the President did not attend, he tasked Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. to represent him and to read his remarks. PRRD will also not attend the gala dinner scheduled tonight and will instead rest,” the official said.
According to him, Duterte is expected to participate in the scheduled summits, including the bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe on Thursday.
“We assure the nation that his aforementioned absence has nothing to do with his physical health and well-being which have been the subject of speculation. The President’s constantly punishing work schedule is proof that he is in top physical shape,” he added.
