A fugitive former judge has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over allegations for being behind the killing of another judge, Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez said on Saturday (Oct. 10).
Marquez identified the arrested suspect as former Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Oscar Tomarong who is wanted for the May 2019 killing of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte RTC Judge Reymar Lacaya.
Meanwhile, Marquez said he has already informed Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta of the arrest of Tomarong, a former NBI agent who took early retirement as judge following the killing.
The arrest was reported NBI Deputy Director for Regional Operations Service Antonio Pagatpat was said Tomorong “surrendered due to extreme pressures from our teams closely monitoring his residence and possible hideouts.”
Marquez revealed Tomarong was previously assigned as Judge of Liloy.
However, Marquez ordered Tomarong to switch RTCs with Lacaya after receiving derogatory reports about the retired judge.
The court administrator disclosed that Lacaya had found anomalies in the orders of Tomarong at the Liloy RTC including the release of drug suspects.
Lacaya decided to reverse the orders of Tomarong and had re-arrested the released drug suspects.
“Shortly after, Judge Lacaya was murdered,” Marquez said.
