A man who has duped victims of their money by claiming to be the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. has been arrested, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Eric Distor announced on Saturday (Oct. 17).
Distor identified the suspect as Malbert Marcos who was arrested last Oct. 13 in Antipolo City by agents of the NBI’s NBI’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD).
He said NBI agents served an arrest warrant issued in Maya last year by a Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) where he has a pending carnapping case.
The NBI chief said “subject misrepresented himself as the son of former president Ferdinand E. Marcos and duped people by presenting fake gold bullion certificates and getting donations in return of trillion of dollars he is going to give back once he gets the Marcos wealth deposited in Switzerland, London and New York, USA.”
One of his victims recounted that he “introduced himself to her as the son of former president Ferdinand Marcos.”
“She was enticed to help him in the recovery of Marcos deposits abroad. She was made to foot the bills on the hotel and restaurant meetings with unsuspecting victims amounting to more or less Php 500,000.00. Subject later took her Toyota Hi-Lux Pick Up,” the NBI said.
“Subject is currently detained at the NBI Jail. Further investigation is being conducted to ascertain the true name and identity of MALBERT ALBERTO MARCOS,” the NBI said.
