NBI to press charges vs. 5 netizens over fake news
At least five persons could be charged next week for making fake news and posting these in social media, disclosed National Bureau of Investigation-Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) Chief Victor Lorenzo.
“By next week magpa-file na kami ng mga cases,” said Lorenzo who noted that the complaints will be filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ).
“So far for evaluation pa lang ng legal namin is lima,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo has assured that the NBI will not be going after persons he have posted criticisms online concerning the government’s response against the 2019 conronavirus (COVID-19).
Earlier, Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman Chel Diokno accused the NBI of silencing government critics.
“Pati ordinaryong mamamayang nagpo-post ng hinaing online, pinapatawag ng NBI,” he said.
“Ang dami nang namamatay, pati frontliners, pero imbis na COVID, kritiko ang gusto nilang puksain,” he pointed out.
