The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is the agency with the most number of complaints received by the anti-corruption task force formed by President Rodrigo Duterte, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.
The complaints about DPWH, Guevarra said, involve supposed anomalies in construction projects outside Metro Manila.
The Operations Center Secretariat is still in the process of consolidating the complaints they received and those received by DOJAC ( Department of Justice Action Center) as there has been a sudden surge in complaints this week,’’Guevarra said.
Guevarra was tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to investigate the widespread corruption in the government, giving emphasis in the supposedly graft- ridden DPWH.
The task force was also given the power to prosecute offenders and prevent corruption in the bureaucracy.
“We have a twin goal, one is to prosecute those whom we shall find, after due investigation, to have been involved in corrupt practices. Our output is not just recommendatory. we shall file cases directly with the Ombudsman. Our other objective is preventive in nature; install anti-corruption mechanisms in govt agencies, educate the citizenry on the evils of corruption, promote values of integrity and civic-mindedness, and the like,” Guevarra explained.
However, Guevarra emphasized that all complaints will be thoroughly screened to ensure that only legitimate ones are investigated, bearing in mind the coming 2022 elections where complaints against opposing parties could be manufactured.
