New normal: Senate to hold virtual necrological service for Tessie Aquino-Oreta
The Senate will honor the late former senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta through a resolution to be adopted during the May 18 session.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said the Senate will hold a virtual necrological service for Oreta in lieu of the traditional rites at the Senate session hall.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said he was saddened by the demise of Oreta, who passed away Thursday (May 14) at the age of 75.
Sotto, who had worked alongside Oreta at the Senate, said the late senator was close to him and Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gregorio Honasan.
Oreta was the sister of former senator and democracy icon Benigno Aquino Jr. She served as senator from 1998 to 2004
Some of the bills Oreta authored which became a law include the Solo Parent Act, Solid Waste Management Act, Clean Air Act, and Philippine Science High School System Act.
