Nganga pa rin! PDP still waiting for Duterte’s guidance over Speakership row
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
The leadership of the ruling PDP Laban is still awaiting for the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte over hotly-contested Speakership row within the administration party.
“(Still) waiting for guidance from PRRD… will update ASAP,” said PDP Laban Public Information chief Ronwald Munsayac in the ruling party’s Viber group on Monday.
The camp of Senator Manny Pacquiao said they are still lingering for the much awaited phone call from the chief executive over his decision on who will they support among their three Speaker-wannabe party mates, namely reelected Reps. Lord Allan Velasco (Marinduque), Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales (Pampanga), and former House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez (Davao del Norte).
Pacquiao was earlier given the task earlier by the party’s top honchos of announcing their choice for the House leadership.
The eight-division boxing champion was supposed to first announce PDP Laban’s official candidate for the Speakership last Saturday but the boxing champ’s camp stressed that the situation is still uncertain up to now.
Cabinet Karlo Nograles in an interview over radio DZBB last Sunday said Duterte might maintain his neutrality in the battle for the House leadership since his preference could “tilt the balance” and influence other parties. Duterte is the chairman of the ruling party.
“It is also not farfetched that the President would not endorse anyone because most of his pronouncements,” said Nograles.
Palace Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on last week said the chief executive remains neutral and would not meddle in the selection of the next House Speaker.
