DAVAO CITY – Former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III admitted that he was ditched from the senate slate of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).

Pimentel’s statement came after a sample ballot of HNP that didn’t include his name came out on Twitter on Monday. Hugpong endorsed a total of 13 candidates and Pimentel emerged as the odd man out.

Pimentel still thanked the Presidential daughter for allowing him to campaign with her influential political regional entity despite of the recent development.

“In spite of this development, I still want to thank HNP and Mayor Inday Sara Duterte for allowing me to campaign with them for the entire 90 days. God bless us all,” said Pimentel.

The reelectionist administration senator was present during last week’s “Miting de Avance” of HNP along San Pedro Square in Davao City.

Pimentel, president of the ruling administration party, Partido
Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan was well know close confidante
of ousted House Speaker and reelectionist Davao del Norte Rep.
Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, Mayor Duterte’s political nemesis.

As early as April, the core group of HNP in Davao Region scratched

Pimentel from the list of senatoriables to be supported in Region 10 upon the request of Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio “Tony Boy” Floirendo and his cousin, party secretary-general and incumbent provincial Gov. Anthony del Rosario.

Floirendo and Alvarez were former friends turned political rivals in Davao del Norte.

In her speech during HNP’s final campaign Caravan in Camiguin Province last April 29, Mayor Duterte said PDP Laban is a party controlled by Pimentel and by his father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
