Nilaro nila bayan ko! Duterte claims Lopez family has too much influence on elections
President Rodrigo Duterte is claiming that only one family is controlling the country’s elections.
“They take advantage sa kanilang political power Every election noon o sa ngayon o bukas sabihin nila sa isang kuwarto lang ‘yan, ‘O adre, sinong kandidato natin ngayon? O ikaw diyan, ikaw ang bahala sa ano ha, you raise the funds’,” said Duterte in a speech in Jolo Monday night.
“Lima ata lang ang tao. Isang pamilya lang ang nag-uusap diyan. Ganun nilaro nila ang bayan ko,” he added.
Although he did not name the family, Duterte was obviously alluding to the Lopezes who have been widely called “kingmaker” for allegedly using the vast clout of their media unit, ABS-CBN, to back up their handpicked candidates and diminish the chances of non-favored bets.
In a speech last May, Speaker Alan Cayetano accused ABS-CBN’s owners of meddling in the elections, citing how they used the network in favor of their chosen politikos in the 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2019 elections.
