No can do: Sotto rejects calls for Senate to intervene in Gordon-Trillanes feud

Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III on Friday refused calls to have the leadership of the upper chamber mediate between their warring colleagues, Senators Richard Gordon and Antonio Trillanes IV.

“I don’t think any intervention can work. We just have to follow parliamentary procedures, period!” Sotto said in a text message to reporters.

The senator’s reaction was sought on the proposition made by Sen. Win Gatchalian to have the issue now confronting Gordon and Trillanes settled amicably.

Gatchalian said the two senators should sit down and settle the issue among themselves and prevent the situation from further aggravating by having Gordon’s issue against Trillanes brought before the ethic and privileges committee.

Trillanes had called Gordon names during the Senate blue ribbon committee’s hearing on the P6.4-billion smuggled shabu as he cricitized the latter’s handling of the proceedings.

In retaliation, Gordon said he will file a complaint before the said committee and put in the hands of their colleagues Trillanes’ fate, whether he should be sanctioned for his actuations.
