The leadership mess at the House of Representatives does not constitute a constitutional crisis, as far as this politiko is concerned.
Former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said the House leadership squabble could be settled through the use of chamber’s rules as well as “political power.”
The former lawmaker made the comment after journalist Sol Vanzi’s asked on Facebook if there was a constitutional crisis.
“Strictly speaking it can only be classified as a Constitutional Crisis when there is a chasm between 2 of the three separate branches of the Government or all three of them,” Teodoro commented on Facebook.
” The Current issue is merely a leadership issue of the House which can be resolved through the proper application of its Rules and the application of political power,” he said.
House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has been removed from his post after over a 100 lawmakers elected Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco as their new leader during an assembly at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City last Monday, Oct. 12.
The change of leadership came after President Duterte asked congressmen to resolve their impasse and pass the proposed 2021 national budget. A special session of Congress has been called by the President this week to pass the budget.
