DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has refuted the accusation made by Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founding chair Jose Maria Sison that his father, President Rodrigo Duterte was scheming to rig the May 2019 elections.
In an interview in Digos City on Tuesday, Mayor Duterte said that her father would not engage in fraud and would rather participate in elections fair and square.
“I’m sure hindi ‘yan kayang gawin ni President Duterte,” she said.
She said her father often reminds her that “there is no honor and pride” in winning through poll fraud.
“Hindi naman magbabago ‘yang prinsipyo niya na ganyan galing sa Davao City dahil naging Presidente na siya. I’m sure ganyan din ang prinsipyo niya ngayon—there is no dignity in winning na galing sa pandaraya,” she said.
“Sabi niya huwag mandaya, because there is no honor and pride in winning na galing sa pandaraya,” she added.
President Duterte served as local chief executive and district legislator of Davao City prior to his assumption to the presidency in 2016. He has never lost a single election in more than three decades of his colorful political career.
