No if or buts: PDP-Laban candidates in 2019 must support Duterte, federalism – Pimentel
Support federalism and support the programs of President Duterte until the end of his term.
These are the “conditions” set by the ruling party, PDP-Laban, to those seeking to run under its banner in the coming 2019 mid-term elections, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Sunday said.
Only those who could accede to these “terms” could have the backing of the administration party, he said.
“You cannot be a member of PDP-Laban, much less a candidate of the party and not support one of its core tenets,” Pimentel, PDP-Laban president said, underscoring that federalism is one of the guiding principles of the PDP-Laban which has more than 300,000 members across the country.
Pimentel said they are open in considering non-party members to run under the PDP-Laban party but they have to adhere to such conditions imposed by them.
Furthermore, Pimentel said party members will have priority in the selection process.
The announcement came as the party begins preparations for the 2019 mid-term elections in the following a mass oath-taking rallies in different provinces.
At least 30,000 new members took their oaths in Bulacan recently.
