No more Grace: Mar to pick own VP?

Is President Benigno Aquino III leaving it up to Mar Roxas to pick his own running mate now that the Liberal Party’s (LP) top choice for the post, Senator Grace Poe, is having plans of her own?

That seems to be the case according LP Vice Chairman for political affairs, Caloocan Rep. Egay Erice.

“Wala pa pong bise, ang sabi po ni Pang. Aquino hahayaan niya si Sec. Mar na pumili,” Erice, a hardcore Roxas backer, told Radyo Inquirer on Wednesday, September 16.

“Malaki ang say ng presidential candidate, kasi team mate niya talaga yan,” the congressman said, referring to LP standard-bearer Roxas.

LP Chairman Aquino had repeatedly met with coalition partner Poe in the past in efforts to convince her to become Roxas’ running mate. The lady solon has been especially sought-after, being the survey front runner.

Poe is expected to finally declare her presidential run on Wednesday night.

Erice mentioned the likes of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo and Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano as potential vice presidents of the LP bet.

Roxas, in an interview in Quezon City Tuesday confirmed that talks were ongoing between his camp and the two politikos. He bared that Batangas Governor Vilma Santos and her husband, Senator Ralph Recto were also in the mix. (Randy K. Ortega)
