Senator Risa Hontiveros need not worry about Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II from inhibiting himself from the murder case of slain 17-year-old student Kian Delos Santos.
Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta gave herself the assurance after she accepted the request of Kian’s family the handle the case against policemen who killed him.
“I think hinidi kailangan hilingin yan kasi hindi naman si SOJ (Secretary of Justice) ang mag-investigate,” explained Acosta on Friday (August 25).
She pointed out prosecutors of the Department of Justice (DOJ) will be the ones conducting the preliminary investigation of the murder and torture complaints Acosta filed also on Friday.
“Ang mga fiscal natin career yan from the ranks. Hindi nakiki-alam ang DOJ Secretary sa preliminary investigation in fairness,” Acosta said.
Hontiveros has expressed concerns Aguirre will show bias in the case and, because of this, has asked him to inhibit himself from handling the case.
