A cousin of former President Benigno Aquino III has been charged before Department of Justice for alleged violations of environmental laws in Boracay.

Ramon Cojuangco Jr. , the president of Playa Asya Resort, which operates Asya Boracay and Asya Premier Suites, was accused of violation of Section 20 in relation to Sections 79, and 84 of the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.

According to the National Bureau of Investigation Task Force Boracay, Playa Asya Resort, Kingfisher’s Farm, and SkyGarden de Boracay violated the provisions of the Revised Forestry Code in allegedly occupying forest lands.

The three resorts are also accused of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Local Government Code.

Among those named in the complaint are Malay, Aklan Mayor Ceciron Cawaling, former Malay mayor John Yap, engineers, zoning administrators, provincial and municipal assessors, other local government officials and some environment officers who issued licenses, clearances, and permits which allowed the the three establishments to operate.
