Office of Executive Secretary working on OPS revival – Andanar

Work is underway for the reestablishment of the Office of Press Secretary (OPS), according to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.
President Rodrigo Duterte last week hinted at the revival of the OPS to replace the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
“(The) (Office of Executive Secretary) (is) working on OPS (Executive Order) that we submitted,” PCOO chief Andanar told reporters.
In a separate interview, the secretary said in 2016, he proposed to revert the PCOO back to the OPS, but it failed to push through due to lack of adequate funding.
“Kaya panukala natin ito noong 2016 pa, eh kaso nagkakaproblema nga, dahil kulang sa budget, sabi ni (Department of Budget and Management) Secretary (Benjamin) Diokno. Pero ngayon siguro na si Senator President (Vicente) “Tito” Sotto na mismo ang nagsabi na kailangan meron nito ay malaking tulong po iyan, malaking kumbaga, he carries a heavy weight pagdating sa mga public policies na kailangan natin i-adipt sa gobyerno,” he explained.
During a Senate hearing on the PCOO budget, Sotto said he wanted the PCOO reverted to OPS because its functions “have completely digressed already from the original intent of the creation of the Office of the Press Secretary and it is no longer in the landscape of the administration.”
Some lawmakers believe that the PCOO and the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office were created to “accommodate some political friends of the previous administration,” the politiko said.
