Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman Chel Diokno believes that former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Is behind the impeachment complaint that was filed against Supreme Court (SC) Justice Marvic Leonen.
“Palpak sa quo warranto at motion to inhibit, ngayon sa impeachment ipipilit,” read Diokno’s social media post.
“Looks like the Marcoses are trying all their tactics on AJ Leonen. Iba na ang may kapangyarihan—ang daling baluktutin ng batas at mga institusyon natin para sa sariling kapakanan,” he pointed out.
Because of this, Diokno urged the public not to allow Leonen has been removed from the SC.
“Wag natin payagan yan,” he declared.
Leonen, who was appointed to the SC in 2010 by then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, is currently handling the election protest Marcos filed against Vice President Leni Robredo.
Lawyer Larry Gadon filed the impeachment complaint after the SC turned down his and the request of Solicitor General Jose Calida for copies of Leonen’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs).
The SALNs were intended to be used in the quo warranto petition intended to be filed against Leonen who allegedly failed to file his SALNs when he was still teaching at the University of the Philippines (UP).
Marcos and Calida also separately filed petitions seeking to inhibit Leonen from handling the poll protest but was turned down by the SC.
