#OpenTheBypass hashtag trends on Twitter after MWSS exec gets roasted by ex-employee
The proposal of a former Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) employee for solving the water crisis in Metro Manila and Rizal trended on Twitter after screenshots of his exchange with an MWSS executive became viral.
Based on a tweet by Twitter trends tracker Trendinalia Philippines (@trendinaliaPI), the hashtag “#OpenTheBypass” first trended in the Philippines around 1:44 a.m. Friday (March 15).
The hashtag was coined by netizens who read the suggestion made by former MWSS employee Angel Salazar to solve the water crisis.
He told MWSS chief regulator Patrick Ty in a series of Facebook comments that the water shortage will be resolved if the bypass regulating the water flow between concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad were opened.
Salazar, a civil engineering graduate who worked at MWSS for 30 years, accused the rgulatory body of deliberately closing the bypass to favor Maynilad, which is owned by businessman Manny V. Pangilinan.
Ty’s original Facebook post, to which Salazar replied, has been deleted.
