Outgoing CJ De Castro to SC employees: I’ll miss you!
“I will miss you all of you.”
This is what retiring Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro said during her last flag raising ceremony held at the SC as she is set to hang up her robe and retire this Oct. 10.
“I tried my best so that my presence will be most felt not only by those employees of the court byt also of our judges and justices nationwide,” she said.
During her brief stint as chief justice, De Castro instituted several reforms including the upgrading of the salary grades of first level court judges and giving overtime pay to court personnel in relation to the continuous trial in criminal cases.
Also present at the flag ceremony were SC Justices Diosdado Peralta, Mariano del Castillo, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, Francis Jardeleza, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., and Jose Reyes Jr.
The magistrates handed to De Castro a certificate of recognition for her more than 45 years in government service.
De Castro, who took over as chief justice last Aug. 28, is considered as the first female chief justice following the removal of ousted chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
The SC had granted the quo warranto petition which nullified Sereno’s 2012 appointment as chief justice for failing to comply with the requirements set by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
