The Duterte government will allocate P108.9 billion for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) next year following institutionalization of the said social service for indigent Filipinos.
Based on the 2020 National Expenditure Program (NEP) submitted by Malacañnag to Congress, next year’s allocation for the 4Ps program is higher by P20.793 billion compared to the P88.10 billion under this year’s General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Under the proposal, health and nutrition cash grants for qualified households will increase from P500 to P750 every month.
The reason for the increase, according to Malacañang during the budget presentation in the House of Representatives, was the rising prices of basic commodities.
The education cash grants of every child enrolled in senior high school will also increase from P500 to P700.
President Rodrigo Duterte last April signed Republic Act No. 11310 or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Act of 2019.
The distribution of CCT to qualified households started during the Arroyo Administration and was later improved under the Aquino presidency.
The 4Ps program is the country’s poverty reduction strategy that allocate monetary allowance to qualified poor households for a maximum of five years to improve their health, nutrition, and education.
Under the 2019 budget, the 4Ps programs has allotted benefits for 4,400,000 target households based on the database of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
