Napuno na! Duterte threatens to shut PLDT-MVP down over useless hotlines
By Prince Golez
President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to shut down telecommunications company PLDT if they refuse to add more hotlines for complaints on government services.
Duterte made the remark during his speech at the campaign rally of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in Cebu City Sunday evening.
The 8888 citizens’ complaint hotline is always busy, he lamented.
In 2016, the President signed Executive Order 6 to create hotline 8888 which aims to address grievances about corruption in government agencies and offices.
“If you see corruption, tell me. Call 8888. Bong, add another trunk line. The present setup can’t accommodate all the calls. It’s always busy. Tell PLDT. If not, I’ll shut down their business.” he said.
“Oo, that’s true. I don’t want to brag, but they owe the government eight billion. No President has ever asked for payment,” Duterte added.
