Paasa si Pacquiao, Phisgoc! Lighting of P50-M SEA Games cauldron turns out to be taped spectacle
For weeks, the public wondered how the P50-million cauldron for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will be lit considering that it’s located 90 kilometers from the Philippine Arena, the location of the opening ceremonies.
On Saturday (November 30), the mystery was solved. The cauldron was lit days before the opening ceremonies, and the footage was only shown during the event.
A number of netizens expressed dismay after watching the opening ceremonies, as it became apparent that Senator Manny Pacquiao and boxer Nesthy Petecio had taped lighting the cauldron a few days ago.
The video played at the opening ceremony showed Pacquiao running with a lit torch as a crowd cheered on.
Nearing the cauldron, he then passed the torch to Petecio, who then let the torch’s tip touch the cauldron’s base. A fireworks display followed afterwards and the cauldron was set ablaze.
According to reports from Inquirer.net and Manila Bulletin, Pacquiao and Petecio taped the lighting of the cauldron earlier this week.
Twitter account @AltABSCBN said the video explains reports that there was a test run of the fireworks display at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, where the cauldron is located.
“Kaya pala nag test run ng fireworks para sa taped presentation. Ang daming nauto dun ah,” it tweeted.
“Nagwarla pa tayong lahat kasi sinunog daw yung pera ng taumbayan eh yun na pala yun. Kakaloka,” @AltABSCBN added.
