Paasang media! Manolo Quezon blasts reports on Bam Aquino entering ‘Magic 12’
Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Manolo Quezon has called out certain media outfits for reporting about Senator Bam Aquino’s entry into the so-called “Magic 12” list in the senatorial race despite a partial tally of election results showing he’s lagging behind.
In a tweet posted Wednesday (May 15), Quezon said media outfits reporting on Aquino are “milking a story” when the Commission on Elections’ own partial and unofficial tally of election results showed he was out of the “Magic 12.”
“I think stories like thesem milking a story, who’s (sic) outcome was already made known, dry, is going to confuse and irritate people who now wonder if the overall results have changed,” he said.
Several media outfits, starting with GMA News Online, reported Tuesday (May 14) that Aquino was in 12th place based on the first batch of election results canvassed by the National Board of Canvassers.
The canvassed votes represent only 34 certificates of canvass from 130 clustered precincts within and outside the country.
However, the partial and unofficial tally of election results shown by the Comelec’s transparency server showed Aquino in 14th place, behind Senators Nancy Binay, who was in 12th place, and JV Ejercito, who placed 13th.
Aquino had 13.9 million votes compared to Binay’s 14.2 million and Ejercito’s 14 million.
Partial and unofficial results reflected the 96.79 percent of the election returns transmitted nationwide as of Wednesday, 6:44 p.m.
