Pabibong penguin! Dick draws flak for sending face masks to China amid nCOV scare in PH
Netizens are criticizing Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon’s decision to send face masks to China as stores run out of supply following the Department of Health’s confirmation of a 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCOV) case in the Philippines.
Twitter user @ArbetBernardo challenged Gordon, chairman of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), to distribute one face mask to each Filipino for free.
“Eh you sent 1.4 million face masks to a country that probably can fend off for itself, while your own countrymen can’t buy a single face mask right now. I dare the PH Red Cross to give 1 face mask to each Filipino. Now,” he said in response to Gordon’s tweet urging Filipinos not to panic against the 2019-nCOV.

Netizen @wawam said: “@DickGordonDG a senator of the PHL and chief of the PHILIPPINE Red Cross had 3.6M face masks to China. and he was so proud of it. in the meantime, pinoys in the PHL can’t find face masks to buy. Gordon’s priority is China, not the PHL.”
Twitter user @Maree_Therese questioned Gordon’s priorities: “In Iloilo, face masks are no longer available. Manila, Cebu, Dumaguete pa kaya? Dick Gordon na nagpa-hero sa Tsina, maglabas ka ng masks na hindi nyo nilabas nung Taal eruption pero nailabas nyo para sa China -$1.4 million worth (50 million pesos+). AASAHAN NAMIN. #OustDuterte”
Netizen @xjhoanne expressed exasperation over Gordon’s willingness to help Chinese nationals before Filipinos.
“Tangina, the audacity of this government talaga! Before they did that, did they even consider giving away free face masks to their own citizens? ESP to the homeless ppl or to ppl who can’t even afford to buy one?! Fuck you, this is not something to brag about Mr. Gordon,” she said.
Actress Chai Fonacier shared a similar thought: “Meanwhile, Sen. Dick Gordon was proud to announce he sent all the damn face masks to China before taking care of his own countrymen. Good job, Sen.”
