Pabigat kay Duterte: NBI should stop ‘stupidity’ in investigating people fighting coronavirus pandemic – Defensor
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
House committee on public accounts chair Mike Defensor said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) should “not burden” President Rodrigo Duterte for investigating people trying to help the government in responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
Defensor made the remarks after the NBI anti-graft division is seeking an explanation from Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto for allegedly violating the Bayanihan Act of 2020 after allowing passenger tricycle drivers to ferry medical frontliners even though the alleged violation was committed before the said law was passed.
“Will the NBI please stop this stupidity,” said Defensor.
“They should stop investigating people trying to help, less it is perceived as political. They should not burden the President with these acts while we are all trying to help fight this disease,” he added.
Instead of being involved in partisan activities, Defensor stressed NBI should instead run after hoarders of medical equipment such as masks, personal protective equipments (PPEs), gloves among others and “go after syndicates soliciting donations.”
“They should run after those who hoard food waiting for prices to go up,” he added.
The NBI, according to Defensor, should also help in making sure that the lockdowns are effected and barangay and local officials are doing their respective jobs.
