Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao has donated P125,000 of his own money to the provincial government of Maguindanao for the benefit of the families affected by the clash between Special Action Force (SAF) troopers and Moro rebels last Jan. 25.
Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu has confirmed that Pacquiao sent the six-figure sum to him through an emissary last Monday. Each of the families of the five wounded villagers in Mamasapano will receive P25,000 from the boxer.
The governor will match Pacquiao’s donation with another P125,000 so that the families will each receive P50,000.
Mangudadatu quipped that the boxing champ is the first non-Muslim who had volunteered to provide financial assistance for the families displaced by the conflict. “We’re very glad my friend Manny (Pacquiao) helped the civilian victims,” he told the Manila Bulletin.
Pacquiao had earlier donated cash to help the families of the 44 SAF troopers killed in the Mamasapano clash.
