Pacquiao willing to head Senate panel to hear death penalty bill: Kaya ko ‘yan depensahan!
Senator Manny Pacquiao on has expressed willingness to chair the Senate subcommittee that will conduct public hearings on the proposal to bring back death penalty for drug-related crimes and plunder.
Pacquiao the proposed measure should have been passed in the 17th Congress so that the drug problems in the country have long been resolved.
“Sa tingin ko late na ngayon yan eh, dapat noong 17th Congress naipasa na yan para wala na talagang droga na pumasok dito in short matakot na yung iba na magpasok dito ng droga,” he said.
Pacquiao said he would vote in favor of reinstating the death penalty to get rid of illegal drugs and corruption in the government service.
“I can explain that (death penalty) properly, biblically and constitutionally,” he said.
Pacquiao said he prefers firing squad in public for convicted drug offenders where the public can witness the execution while firing squad or lethal injection may be applied for convicted plunderers.
Meanwhile, on the second regular session, the Senate passed a resolution congratulating and commending Sen. Pacquiao’s victory over boxer Keith Thurman for continuously bringing glory to Philippine Sports and honor to the nation.
In his speech, Sen. Pacquiao urged fellow senators to enact his proposed measure, the Philippine Boxing and Combat Sports Bill that will give opportunities to other talents whom he considered to be future champions of Filipinos.
