A brother of Sen. Manny Pacquiao has won a seat in the House of Representatives through the party-list system.
Incumbent General Santos City Councilor Alberto “Bobby” Pacquiao is the newest member of the People’s champ’s family to enter the legislative branch after party-list OFW Family Club was one of the 51 groups proclaimed by the poll body on Wednesday following last week’s midterm elections.
OFW Family Club is one of the four party-list groups supported by the eight-division world boxing champion the during the May 13 polls together with 1Pacman, People’s Champ Movement, and Wow Pilipinas.
The incumbent city councilor in his native General Santos City said his legislative agenda will focus on the welfare of Filipinos working overseas especially by them additional benefits once they decided to return for good in the country.
The party-list group first gained prominence during the 16th Congress under the guidance of a prominent seasoned diplomat the late Rep. Roy Señeres.
A former professional boxer just like his hall of famer brother, the younger Pacquiao never won a major world-title and retired for good after series of defeats in 2008.
In 2016, he finally decided to follow the footsteps of his older sibling by entering into local politics in General Santos City, wherein he was elected councilor.
Pacquiao’s other brother, Ruel, was also victorious during last week’s election following his successful reelection bid as district legislator of Sarangani province.
