The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo intends to present more than twice the 362 witnesses former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. intends to present for his electoral protest.
Robredo’s lawyers listed 738 witnesses in her preliminary conference brief submitted before the Supreme Court (SC) sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
“For protestee Robredo, and to the millions who voted and supported her, the only truth is that she has been validly voted upon and proclaimed as Vice President of this country,” read the brief filed by her counsel, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.
Robredo also identified in her brief three provinces as pilot areas for the manual recount – Capiz, Sulu, North Cotabato.
In his preliminary conference brief, Marcos identified as pilot areas Iloilo, Negros Oriental and even Robredo’s home province of Camarines Sur.
Marcos lawyer Victor Rodriguez explained that while Camarines Sur was the hometown of Robredo, it was highly improbable that she would get more than eighty percent of the votes cast when all of the other vice presidential candidates were either from the Bicol Region or had ties in the said region.
Marcos and Robredo submitted their respective briefs in time for the conduct of the preliminary conference set by the PET on July 11
