Warring gangs at the New Bibilid Prison (NBP) in Muntlupa City want to go at each other again, said Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Monday (Oct. 12).
Following the riot at the Bilibid last Friday (Oct. 9), Guevarra said “the situation was still tense as of yesterday.”
“There were intel reports that one group was amassing to strike back at the rival group,” he disclosed.
“But the prison authorities, with the assistance of the police, have so far contained the violence,” he assured.
Meanwhile, Guevarra said he is awaiting for an update this Monday from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) about the situation at the Bilibid.
The BuCor earlier said the Friday’s riot was caused by the fight between the Sigue Sigue Sputnik (SSS) and Sigue Sigue Commando (SSC) gangs.
The riot resulted in the deaths of nine inmates and the injury of seven others.
