Malacañang on Tuesday supported the move of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to ban foreign marine survey ships, including China, in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

“Dati na yata ‘yan diba? Dinagdagan niya lang yung listahan,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.

Asked if the Palace opposes the DFA decision, Panelo told reporters: “No, basta kung ano ‘yung sinabi ng department, ‘yun ang policy ng administration, unless the President makes another policy statement.”

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. earlier said he will ”universalize” ban on marine survey ships to avoid “suspicion of favoritism” and “bribes.”

Locsin issued this tweet in reaction to Panelo’s statement that he finds nothing wrong with asking the help of the United States in monitoring EEZ.
