Malacañang on Monday urged Filipino musicians to pen a song that represents the entire Philippines.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the remark after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte criticized the use of Hotdog song “Manila” during the entrance of the Philippine delegation at the opening ceremonies of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

“The mayor is right. We have to have a song that will reflect not only Manila but the entire Philippines – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Wala pa eh. Kaya yung mga songwriters are being alerted to make such a song,” said Panelo.

“Maganda ang idea nga na gumawa ng song na medyo catchy din at sasabihin mo yung peculiarities ng mga lugar,” he added.

On Sunday, Duterte took to Instagram to share her sentiments on the choice of the song “Manila” during the SEA Games 2019 opening rites.
