Palace shrugs off Duterte’s rant vs. bishops: ‘Di pa ba kayo sanay?

President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest attack against Catholic bishops criticizing his administration was just a “hyperbole,” Malacanang said Thursday.
“We should be getting used to this President. He makes certain statements for dramatic effect,” said spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a press briefing.
Panelo added that Duterte was merely telling the Catholic Church to “stop criticizing and do some good in this country, help us.”
In a speech on Wednesday, the President stepped up his violent attacks against the Catholic leaders, saying they are better off dead.
Is the Palace not worried that Duterte’s statement might encourage priest killings?
“No, I don’t think so. Majority of Filipinos have been used to this President. They are used to hearing those things but not believe in them because they know he does not mean that,” said Panelo.
