President Rodrigo Duterte will not certify the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill as urgent, Malacañang said Wednesday.
What Duterte would certify as urgent is the Anti-Discrimination Bill, according to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
“He was referring to an anti-discrimination bill not SOGIE bill much like the anti-discrimination ordinance existing in Davao passed when he was still the Mayor there,” said Panelo.
On Tuesday, Duterte categorically stated that he would certify the controversial SOGIE Equality Bill as urgent.
“Yes, Whatever would make the mechanisms of… What — what would make them happy. Gusto ko kagaya kay — kay Senator (Juan Ponce) Enrile — gusto ko happy siya,” he told reporters.
The President also suggested a separate restroom for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
