Malacañang is “concerned” over the abduction of at least 11 Filipino seafarers in West Africa.
In a media briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo assured that the Department of Labor and Employment is on top of the situation.
“We are concerned about the kidnapping and Secretary Bello is handling it,” said Panelo.
Two Filipino seafarers were kidnapped by suspected pirates “somewhere in Togo,” a report sent by the Philippine Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria said.
Last week, nine Filipino sailors were also abducted by suspected pirates off Benin in the region.
