Malacanang denounced on Friday the killing of a Dutch hostage held by Muslim militants in the southern Philippines.

“We condemn, in the strongest terms, the death of Mr. Ewold Horn, a Dutch national kidnapped and had been held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf Group since 2012,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.

Horn was shot and killed Friday during a firefight between the militants and the local terrorist group in Patikul town, Sulu province.

His death was confirmed by the Western Mindanao Command, said Panelo in a statement.

The spokesman added that the Duterte administration has extended its sympathies to the family and friends of Horn and vowed to bring those responsible for the killing to justice.

“We express our deep condolences to Mr. Horn’s family and loved ones. We vow to pursue his killers to the ends of the earth until they are brought to justice,” he added.
