Malacañang on Sunday rejected the claim that President Rodrigo Duterte’s threat to block the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN is a political vendetta.

Senator Leila de Lima yesterday said the attacks against ABS-CBN and others are part of the administration’s “blatant crackdown” against media outlets, opposition leaders, and organizations that challenge Duterte’s rule.

In an interview on dzIQ, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo denied allegations that Duterte is bullying and intimidating newsgroups.

Ni isa wala nga siyang nademanda,” said Panelo.

“Ang problema sa kanila, gagawa sila ng kalokohan, pag nademanda sila, mero namang probable cause as determined by the prosecutor na nag imbestiga, as determine by the court, wala. Maging matapat sila bilang mga public servants,” he added.

Asked if Duterte will sign the bill renewing ABS-CBN’s franchise if it hurdles Congress, Panelo said: “Depende lahat yun kay Presidente.
